On an emergency trip to his native Venezuela to help his nephew, who was seriously ill in a hospital in Valencia, Pedro Becerra faced the difficulties that Venezuelan children suffer in hospitals, and in general, in their day to day lives.
After asking for help from friends and contacts in the United States, he had a positive response from people willing to donate in favor of these vulnerable children. This experience motivated him to do something to help the children of his country. Once back in Grand Rapids, where he resides, he decided to create the non-profit Children’s Foundation of Venezuela.
The organization operates from Michigan and focuses on mitigating the problematic situation of Venezuelan children through fundraising campaigns and donations of food or other products to alleviate the condition of many minors in the South American country.
Since its creation, they have had support not only from Latinos and Venezuelans residing in Michigan but also from various groups of Hispanics in the United States, such as the Artistas Unidos por Cristo foundation, led by the Venezuelan actress Yahaira Orta.
These Venezuelan and Latino artists have supported the foundation with activities, and primarily using their visibility and fame through social media. They have served as promoters of this cause, bringing sensitivity to people to join and make their donations in favor of Venezuelan children.
Pedro assures that he feels blessed by the support that Venezuelan actors have given to his foundation and highlights that the most significant difference with other foundations is that it is legally registered.
The Children’s Foundations of Venezuela manages several projects, including the campaign «A toy for a Smile, » which they will develop in October. They also propose setting up a dining room in Carabobo, where many children and young people live in a state of helplessness and hunger.
