Today, during a visit to the TCF Center, Lt. Governor Garlin Gilchrist II witnessed ongoing efforts to administer a safe and effective vaccine to area residents.
“The COVID-19 vaccine is our best path forward to get back to doing the things we miss and love, and it’s an honor to see and thank these selfless frontline health care workers efficiently vaccinating Detroiters,” said Lt. Governor Gilchrist. “As someone who has personally lost 27 people in their life to this virus, and more than 15,000 families are without loved ones, every shot in an arm is a potential life saved. Our administration will continue to guide our state forward ensuring that all Michiganders receive factual information about the vaccine and have equitable access to get vaccinated when it’s their turn. We aren’t at the finish line yet, but if we all continue to remain vigilant and do our part to social distance, wear masks and avoid large gatherings we will get through this together.”
As of today, Michigan has administered 1,446,322 vaccines, moving the state closer to its goal of equitably vaccinating at least 70% of Michiganders ages 16 and older as soon as possible. As part of these efforts, Michigan is working to administer 50,000 shots per day through Governor Whitmer’s MI COVID Recovery Plan, partnering with private organizations and nontraditional venues like at TCF Center to create more opportunities for Michigan residents to receive a vaccine.
