A few days ago in Detroit, Chass Center started officially celebrating another anniversary.
«This year, we turn 50 and continue to provide patients with health and wellness services. In Chass, we are serving almost 11,000 patients a year,» says Felix Valbuena, M.D., Chass Center CEO in Detroit.
Chass is a wellness center that provides various services to patients such as dentistry, pharmacy, health counseling, integrated behavior, health promotion, etc. They even have a kitchen for nutrition classes in support of diabetics, as well as Zumba classes. «We’re providing services to the community not only to improve health but well-being in general,» says Valbuena.
The center offers its services to people with limited resources who do not have health insurance. «48 percent of patients do not have medical insurance, and because we receive funds from the government, our goal is to serve all those who arrive at the center, as long as it is within our capacities,» says the director. Before the Affordable Care Act, the center received about 86% of patients without insurance.
The center hopes to offer more and varied services to the Detroit community. Its objective is to continue looking for ways to access services that are currently out of their reach, aimed for the uninsured and underinsured populations of Detroit.
«Our goal is to continue improving the service we provide to patients, and therefore receive greater support and resources to improve the well-being of the community. We are growing as a center, we already have 110 employees, and our goal is to hire more Doctors. We also want to set up a childhood education center and a community garden,» concludes Felix Valbuena.
