Michigan is in the midst of its worst week ever in regards to coronavirus, and the situation is only worsening, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer said in a press briefing Thursday, Nov. 12, as hospitalizations and deaths surge statewide.
“We are facing incredibly dire circumstances, in which cases are surging across the state, hospitals and public health departments are becoming overwhelmed and deaths are increasing,” Whitmer said.
Every week, Whitmer faces a question about whether Michigan will need to be shut down again to stop the spread of COVID-19.
Whitmer said she and her administrative team are «strongly considering all actions we can take to keep Michiganders safe.»
Whitmer called on Michigan residents to double down on mitigation strategies, to wear a mask whenever they are around people outside their own household, and to avoid any unnecessary social interactions.
In late September, the Michigan Supreme Court ruled that Whitmer could no longer issue executive orders on coronavirus mitigation strategies, saying the authority she was citing is unconstitutional.
