With increased support in urban regions such as Detroit and Grand Rapids, Joe Biden called Michigan for Democrats, offsetting President Donald Trump’s strong turnout in rural and ex-urban areas.
The 146,000 voting margin of Biden, 2.7 percentage points, was driven by gains in large, voting-rich counties such as Oakland near Detroit and Kent, including Grand Rapids, amid a total of 5.5 million state-wide voters.
Biden won by 14 points in Oakland, defeating the 8-point advantage of Hillary Clinton in 2016. In Kent, Biden achieved almost 6 points after Trump won by 3 points four years ago.
