En 2022, cuando recibí el premio Leo Padilla de Ford Hispanic Network, un reconocimiento que destaca a hispanos/latinos prominentes cuyo trabajo en favor de la comunidad hispana ha promovido temas importantes a nivel nacional, tuve la oportunidad de conversar con Alberto Marín. Esa noche, él asistía al evento para promover su arte. Durante nuestra conversación, me comentó que me haría un cuadro, y yo le respondí que sí lo hacía, debería incluir gallinas o gallos. ¡Me encantan las gallinas y los gallos!
Con el paso del tiempo, este año, durante los Premios Talentos Latinos 2024, Alberto me sorprendió con una pintura de mi rostro acompañada de un gallo. Fue una sorpresa inmensa y un gran honor. Nunca imaginé tener un retrato propio, y menos aún creado por un artista latino tan talentoso como Alberto.
«Él me había pedido fotos, pero olvidé enviarlas, así que usó una de mi Facebook para crear la obra», explicó Alberto.
Alberto Marín tiene un estudio en Ohio, pero reside en la ciudad de Temperance, Michigan. Desde su adolescencia, desarrolló su interés por el arte, inspirado por el arte sacro y la cultura barroca en México. Más tarde, estudió arquitectura y se especializó en la restauración de monumentos históricos.
Su arte figurativo aborda temas sociales como la violencia de género y el abuso hacia las mujeres ancianas artesanas en México. Además, ha fundado una asociación para apoyarlas. «Se llama MuMa, Mujeres Mágicas, un grupo de 25 mujeres de más de 70 años del estado de Oaxaca, a quienes apoyamos a través de exhibiciones y donaciones para cubrir sus necesidades médicas, alimentación y materiales de trabajo».
En 2023, Alberto expuso en Art Basel Miami Beach y espera participar nuevamente este diciembre. Actualmente, exhibe dos obras en la exposición “La Mariposa” en el Pontiac Creative Arts Center, la cual celebra la cultura y el talento de artistas y diseñadores hispanos.

Alberto Marín Presents His Work at the 2024 Talentos Latinos Awards
In 2022, when I received the Leo Padilla Award from the Ford Hispanic Network, a recognition that honors prominent Hispanic/Latino individuals whose work on behalf of the Hispanic community has helped promote key issues on a national level, I had the chance to speak with Alberto Marín. That night, he was attending the event to promote his art. During our conversation, he mentioned that he would make a painting for me, and I replied that if he did, it should include chickens or roosters. I love chickens and roosters!
As time passed, this year, during the 2024 Talentos Latinos Awards, Alberto surprised me with a painting of my face alongside a rooster. It was an immense surprise and a great honor. I never imagined having a portrait of myself, especially created by such a talented Latino artist as Alberto.
«He had asked me for photos, but I forgot to send them, so he used one from my Facebook to create the piece,» he explained.
Alberto Marín has a studio in Ohio but resides in Temperance, Michigan. His interest in art began in adolescence, inspired by sacred art and the baroque culture in Mexico. Later, he studied architecture and specialized in the restoration of historical monuments.
His figurative art addresses social issues such as gender violence and the abuse of elderly artisan women in Mexico. He has also founded an organization to support them. «It’s called MuMa, Mujeres Mágicas, a group of 25 women over the age of 70 from the state of Oaxaca. Through exhibitions and donations, we fundraise to support them with medical services, food, and materials for their work,» he explained.
In 2023, Alberto showcased his work at Art Basel Miami Beach and hopes to participate again this December. Currently, he is exhibiting two pieces in the “La Mariposa” exhibit at the Pontiac Creative Arts Center, an art show celebrating Hispanic culture and artists.
