Gov. Gretchen Whitmer implored residents to stay home on Nov. 26. “Not gathering with people outside of your household this Thanksgiving, it is an act of kindness and love,” Whitmer said.
Michigan Chief Medical Executive Dr. Joneigh Khaldun warned against holiday gatherings, saying residents should avoid having Thanksgiving with anyone outside of their own household.
However, currently, residents are allowed to celebrate Thanksgiving with one other household they do not live with.
Small and medium-sized gatherings are increasingly becoming a primary source of new infections.
Hospitals in Michigan are at 79% capacity, Dr. Joneigh Khaldun said.
