DETROIT, MICHIGAN (LATMITV) – The Detroit Symphony Orchestra (DSO) PNC Pops Series continues with back-to-back concert programs conducted by Stuart Chafetz: The BIG 80s and Classic Broadway. Both concerts take place at Orchestra Hall, within Midtown Detroit’s Max M. and Marjorie S. Fisher Music Center.
The BIG 80s takes place Friday, April 5 at 8 p.m. and Saturday, April 6 at 8 p.m. Chafetz will lead the DSO and vocalists Nicole Parker and Aaron Finley in a symphonic tribute to the glam-rocking, big-haired 1980s—featuring songs like “The Power of Love,” “If I Could Turn Back Time,” “Everybody Wants to Rule the World,” and more.
Speaking of the 80s: a one-night-only DSO Presents performance of The Music of David Bowie will take place on Saturday, March 30 at 8 p.m., also at Orchestra Hall. Conductor Brent Havens will lead the DSO, a full rock band, and vocalist Brody Dolyniuk for an evening of David Bowie classics.
Classic Broadway takes place Sunday, April 7 at 3 p.m. Chafetz and the DSO will be joined by vocalists Doug LaBrecque and Lisa Vroman for golden-age showtunes from Carousel, The Music Man, Oklahoma!, and more.
In 2017, the DSO’s pops programming took on a fresh title: the PNC Pops Series, thanks to the generous support of PNC Bank. “This is a terrific series that showcases both the DSO and a wide variety of popular music, said Ric DeVore, PNC regional president for Detroit and Southeast Michigan. “That combination is sure to put a smile on the faces of everyone who attends the concerts.”
Thanks to a generous grant from the FCA Foundation, the charitable arm of North American automaker FCA US, the DSO welcomes military veterans, active military, and their families to access discounted tickets for the 8 p.m. performance on Friday, April 5. See below for more information about the ticket discount. Discounts are available for 19 concerts throughout the 2018-2019 Season, including six Friday evening PNC Pops Series concerts and every Friday morning Classical Series Coffee Concert. The FCA Foundation and the DSO thank our veterans and active military members for their service.
Additional support for the PNC Pops Series is provided by Masco Corporation Foundation and Greektown Casino-Hotel.
